I've spent the last while producing a new album by Stee Downes. It's out now on Sonar Kollektiv, and it's titled 'All in a day'.
All instruments were played by myself and Stee, and I did the final mixdowns too, which was a first for me so I learnt a hell of a lot from it! If you want to find out more about it, head over to Stee's myspace page for a peak at some of the tracks, and if you like it you can buy it direct from Sonar Kollektiv here.
I also got asked to do a remix of 'Put a little love in my soul' for a 12" in support of the album, which will also feature my extended version of 'What is wrong with groovin' - should be out November sometime on Sonar Kollektiv. Peep both tracks in the player.
I recently finished a remix for Czech band Alvik. It's been featured on their latest EP entitled 'Cold June', out on Sony BMG now. Listen to it on the Ishplayer...
My new super fresh as a daisy 12" is coming out the end of this month on Scribble Records called The Change EP. Featuring Sweden's Kissey Asplund, New Zealand's Adi Dick, and the UK's Chef, plus a few other guests helping out.
Digital downloads and Vinyl available at Kudos Records.
What people are saying so far:
"Hot, Hot, Hot ! Kissey sounds amazin' on Call the Boss...great track, top groove...Acuzion is all about the programming...heavy (in a very nice way), Gilles will be all over this ! Change is soooo nice. What a voice, really works with the track and the lyrics are great. Clap that is prob my fave out the bunch...lovin the low slung jazz vibes on this. Strong package and one that certainly deserves to do well..." - Ste Hodge - Sick Trumpet
"Brilliant work. Dig Clap That - the Rhodes, the rap, the trumpet!! Title track Change also an incredibly, soulful number. Tinges of Fat Freddys Drop coming through here. This will most definently find it's way into my box for those oozy moments on the dancefloor." - Blair Stafford - Straight Up
"Liking the tunes...good stuff, playlisting Change on my life.fm show this week and I'm sure the others will get some spinnage in next few weeks too..." - Paddy Freeform - Universal Vibes
Born in the UK to an Irish mum and an English Dad in 1977. Moved to Ireland at 14, bought my first guitar at 15 and got really into heavy metal for a while - had all that tapping shit down until I realised it was a pile of shite!
Then I found some crazy soul and funk records in my mums collection and got hooked. Lot of early Santana, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, The Fatback Band. Then got given 'Mulligan meets Monk' by my Grandmother who found it on top of somebody's wardrobe, and got bit by the Jazz bug bigtime.
Whilst living in Dublin, around 1998, I attended a MIDI workshop, just as a favour to a friend, and got blown away by what you could do with a PC and a sampler. Got myself kitted out with an Akai S950 and a PC.
After a while, got bored with Dublin and moved to Amsterdam in 2001 - a wicked place to live - still got big love for it. Then came on a holiday to Croatia in 2003 and fell in love with the place so stayed. My Irish skin aint too happy though...
I've tried a lot of different gear & loads of different software, but now pretty much settled on Cubase, Fruityloops, an MPC1000, my Rhodes, my bass, guitar, and my latest toy - a Hohner D6 clavinet. Ooooh yeah! Plus all those old stomp boxes I bought in my guitaring days are coming in handy now...

For recording and editing audio, I use Cubase SX3. I run FL Studio from inside Cubase as a VST instrument, and write a lot of my drums in that. I also use Addictive Drums for more live sounding drum stuff.
I also have an MPC1000, which I updated with JJ OS2. I do some drums on that, especially hi-hats because I like to get a nice 'played' feel off them - plus I also use it for getting ideas down quickly, as well as for playing live.
I have a Fender Rhodes Mark 1, along with a Hohner D6 Clavinet. I also have an old Russian RITM-2 synth, plus a Novation Xiosynth.
Guitar-wise I have a JHS Vintage Bass, and an Ibanez Jazz guitar. I run my guitar through a Line 6 POD.
I also have a Skylark trumpet and a Boosey & Hawkes saxophone.

If you use FL Studio, then you might know that the later versions have a thing called Dashboard, which lets you make soft controllers for audio hardware. As I find the Xio a bit fiddly to create patches with (getting through all those hidden menus is a chore), I decided to make a dashboard for it. Feel free to download it if you need it.
I think I got most of the useful parameters in there - I left a few little bits out, like the X-Gator, as that's really something you need to do on the synth itself.
If I'm missing anything else, do let me know and I'll try and add it in!
